The steps to be taken to have container contents fumigated:
Customer or freight forwarder notifies either Royal Fumigation or Western Fumigation of upcoming fumigation requirements.
Containers arriving via truck to be fumigated:
If the containers are going to be trucked directly to the fumigation site (Royal or Western), VIT is not involved until fumigated containers arrive on the terminal for export.
Containers arriving via RAIL to be fumigated:
If containers are coming to the port via rail customer or freight forwarder will notify Royal or Western. Either ROYAL or WESTERN will notify VIT via a special email account that the container is scheduled for fumigation.
The RAIL export containers are still to be billed to the appropriate VIT pier (NIT or APMT) NOT to Norfolk Southern Portlock Ramp. Royal or Western will transport the container to their fumigation facility and then to the respective VIT terminal following completion of the fumigation process.
Containers arriving via BARGE to be fumigated:
Customer or freight forwarder advises Royal or Western of upcoming fumigation requirements. Either ROYAL or WESTERN will notify VIT via a special email account that the container is scheduled for fumigation. Royal or Western will transport the container to their fumigation facility and then to the respective VIT terminal following completion of the fumigation process.
