The steps to be taken to have container contents fumigated:
Customer/broker notifies either Royal Fumigation or Western Fumigation of upcoming fumigation requirements.
If the containers are going to be trucked directly to the fumigation site (Royal or Western), VIT is not involved until the fumigated container arrives on the terminal for export.
Containers arriving via RAIL to be fumigated:
If the container is coming to the port via rail….customer/broker will notify the fumigation company.
Either ROYAL or WESTERN will notify VIT via a special email account that the container is scheduled for fumigation.
The RAIL export containers are still to be billed to the VIT pier (NIT/PMT or NNMT), NOT to Norfolk Southern’s Portlock Ramp. Royal/Western will transport the container to their fumigation facility and then deliver to the respective VIT terminal.
Containers arriving via BARGE to be fumigated:
Customer/broker advises Royal or Western of upcoming fumigation requirements…fumigation company uses special email account to notify the VIT system that the container is for fumigation.
